In this world, human beings had much to learn, so the Great Spirit sent them a teacher, Nanabush. Nanabush was a good teacher. Nanabush had many lazy brothers. There was just one enemy in this world, the Serpent People. ǎキゑПWww.fAirY-tALe。Infoふス≠ハТ
One winter day, one of Nanabush's brothers went out to hunt, but when he had not returned by the next morning, Nanabush realized something was wrong.
All that winter Nanabush searched for his brother, but as time passed he became more and more convinced the Serpent People had drowned him.
When spring had come, Nanabush looked down from atop a hill to see two Serpent People sunning themselves by a lake. Nanabush became very angry, for he knew they had kidnapped his brother. He drew his bow and shot an arrow into each serpent, and the two crawled back wounded into the water. ∥ュěFwWw.Fairy-tAlE.inFOμ∪ム
Moments later the water in that lake began to rise, and before long the whole valley was flooded, for the Serpent People wanted to drown Nanabush.

After the water rose as high as Nanbush's chin, it receded. Nanabush knew he had been warned.
When the floodwaters were gone, Nanabush built a giant raft, and left it on top of a tall hill. ツUφㄏクWwW.fAirY-TaLe.iNfOnūκ9
Then he wandered into the valley below. He saw a woman on a log. She was weeping.

"What's wrong?" Nanabush asked. ㄉケШWwW。FAiry-TAle.InfoPㄊ4ВШOセ
"The wicked Nanabush has wounded my brothers." the woman cried.

"Ah, that trickster," Nanabush said. "Allow me to help you. Where do you live? I will tend to your brothers."
"Down this path," she said. "When you reach the lake, walk right in, and there you will find my people." ョけОwWw.FAiry-tAlE.infOニК
Nanabush transformed into a Serpent Woman and entered the lake. MWWW.FaiRY-tALE.iNfoはまL
There lay the two wounded serpents, arrows still piercing their skin. In a far corner Nanabush saw his brother. It was true; his brother had been drowned.
Nanabush leaped forward and pushed the arrows deep into the two serpents, killing them.
"I have paid you for my brother's death!" Nanabush cried as he ran out the door.
Soon the lake's water rose again. But this time Nanabush was ready. He raced to his raft, calling to every creature as he ran. "Come to my raft. Climb aboard." υWwW.FaIrY-TalE。INfoFゥ|O◎У
And so they did. The water continued to rise until it covered the world. Now Nanabush saw the world that they had always known was drowned, and gone with it were the wicked Serpent People.

Nanabush called Muskrat. "Muskrat," he said, "you are a good swimmer. Dive into the water and bring me some mud so that I can create a new world."
After a long time, Muskrat returned. Then Nanabush saw that in Muskrat's paw were a few tiny grains of sand.
Nanabush dried the sand, and from these tiny specks he made a tiny globe, and he breathed life into that globe and placed it in the water.

"Grow," he commanded the globe, and it grew until at last it was large enough to hold all the birds and animals. wwW.FaIRy-tALe.iNfO낱てㄜ
And that, so the Objibwa say, is how Nanabush made the world we know today.
